Recording and Uploading Video
Producing YouTube content requires a much greater time commitment than searching and viewing. Planning, filming, editing and uploading take more time than finding a video and putting it in your favorites, into a playlist, or embedding it on a webpage. Consider using the least restrictive technology – the simplest technology that will accomplish your goal.
Considerations:
Once you've made the decision to record and upload video, you need to secure permissions if images and voices of students will be included. Check with your district's policies regarding web content. - Is it worth your time?
- Is there already a similar resource available?
- Do you really want the whole world to see it?

Hardware:
- Any video camera will work but the Flip Video camera is very easy to use.
- Recording - Press the red button to start and stop, press arrows to zoom in and out.
- Playback - Immediate feedback, to delete or not to delete.
- Download to computer - Insert the USB connector into your computer. FIles download as a QuickTime Movies. Edit video or upload directly to YouTube.
Uploading:
- Include a title and description that will make it easy for others to find your video.
- Adding tags (brief descriptors that may be used as search terms) will also help others find your footage.
- Privacy Settings: Public, Unlisted (view if you have link), and Private (only those you select may view).
- Comments: Allow, On Approval, No Comments.
- Others: Comment voting, video responses, ratings, allow embedding, allow on mobile devices.
- Annotations, captions and subtitles may be added.
- Settings can be changed at any time.
- Videos that are free of distractions will be most effective.
- Consider lighting, extraneous noise, camera stability, and zooming in/out.
